Friday April 19, 2019, Five Mantas at Keauhou Bay.
I saw Independence on the afternoon dive.
On the night dive I saw Koie, Amanda, Jana, Kenzie and Independence.
Plankton was a 3 and there were at least 20 boats including a USCG boat that went into Keauhou Bay during our afternoon dive. JDL x 2. BID x 2. SOW CRA HL MH KS NC KOA Iruku Nui. Hula Kai, Sea Paradise, 2 small double hull canoes and a a bunch of inflatables.
Maybe 260 snorks and 50 scuba divers.
Koie is seriously messed up on her ventral surface. Both pectoral fins have slashes, like from a prop, along the trailing edge and abrasions along the leading surface as if from a line. She also has slashes on abdomen across gill area.
Please be careful with our manta rays!
Use only buoyant lines.
Never deploy decent lines at night.
No illuminated lights under stern.
Don’t linger about moorings w lit surf boards.
Captains go slow and post a watch when entering and departing manta site.
I’d like to dive with manta for another 35 years.
Good luck Saturday.
Best fishes
Keller
