Monday Feb 24
> Off of Alae Point Hilo Bay
> 6:30 am
> I could see a plume or discrete white cloud in/under the water about 20 feet from the shore in 5-10feet deep water. The plume was about 10x10 feet. The surf was flat and the water calm. At first I thought it was sea foam that is commonly seen running along current lines. But it was too white and evenly colored like a big white plastic bag or jelly fish.
>
> Then I noticed the wing tips and movement of several Manta Rays of various sizes, maybe 10. They were swimming around about a 100sq yd area for about an hour. Then I had to go to work....
>
> I would like to know what the white blob was? An amniotic sac? Plankton?
>
> I have seen Manta Rays scuba diving in Keaukaha, while surfing at Honolii and one jump out of the water from our house once. This sighting was a definitely a special moment. I hope some of you know the answer.
